Tires: Tire Inflation for BFG g-Force Sport tires, datsun 240z, nissan 240z
QuestionHi, I just purchased BFG g-Force Sport tires 205/60/15 91V tires with Maximum Load rating of 1356lbs @ 44psi. My car is a 1973 Datsun/Nissan 240z which has a maximum load on the rear tires of 850lbs and 700lbs on the front with passengers & luggage. My question is: "What Tire pressure should I set these to so I am safe and stable at speeds of 60-100MPH, since I'm a spirited driver but do want comfort and quiet road noise when cruising?" I rarely will achieve speeds of 145 MPH. Since I do not have the load curves for this tire any help on proper tire psi is appreciated. Many thanks, Mark.
AnswerMark,
First, I want to you look more closely at the sidewall of the tire. Please note that it says something like: Max load 1356 #, Max pressure 44 psi. This is not the same as max load 1356# at 44 psi.
Also, a 1973 Nissan (Datsun) 240Z originally came with 175HR14's with a pressure spec of 28 psi front and rear. That is the equivalent of a tire load carrying capacity of 480 kg.
It turns out that at 28 psi a tire with a 91 Load Index also carries 480 kg.
But you may find that a few more psi results in a more stable tire - say 3 to 5 psi.
