Tires: rim size and tire size, tacoma prerunner, alloy rims
QuestionHi , I have a 2000 Tacoma prerunner ex/cab (45000 miles) with toyota 15X7" alloy rims with 265 75 X 15 wrangler r/t tires. I need new tires . Door post states orginal tires should be 225 75 X 15 .i want to put highway 235 70 15 tires on it , tire dealer says I need to stay with the 265 75 15 tires.Cost more and my speedometer seems to read faster than I am actually going. Can I reduce the tire size back to what the manufacturer recommends with same rims ?Thanks
AnswerErnie,
The fact that the placard says the vehicle originally came with P225/75R15's says that you should be able to put that size on. That is, of course, unless the vehicle has been modified.
If you are worried about the rim width - your vehicle came with both 6" and 7" rims. No problem there!
