QuestionQUESTION: I'm looking for tires for my wife's 2003 CRV; the Harmony's that are on the vehicle now gave her 71,000 great miles - just don't want to pay another $100 plus for another set of Harmony's which IMO are a fine tire (had them on my 2001 Accord as well)...I see that SAMS Club has the Michelin X-Radial DT for $85 in the 205/70/15 which is a good price, & looking @ the Michelin site the X-Radial DT, Harmony, & Destiny all appear to be of the same "family" (80,000 tread life, same wear rating, tread looks very similar)...What I'm trying to figure out is that are these 3 tires pretty much the same - only being sold @ different shops/wholesale clubs?
Any info on these tires would be great!
Thanks in advance,
Fred.
ANSWER: Fred,
Sams club only sells seconds. There products are 2nd, not good enough for retail sells. That is why they are cheaper. I used to work there for a few months.
Glad you like the Harmony. I always say, can you put a price on safely? If it works, why change it? However, I can not say that in this case. I do not recommend the Harmony. I had them, and I slide when braking on dry roads. Wet roads was like a ice ring in the summer.
I had someone here tell me about a different problem with the Harmony tire. So, I would hate to see you get the Harmony base on how it did prior and it be a problem this round.
The X-Radial DT is a harder tire.
The tires you picked, while look alike, are very different to a train eye. The sipes, groves and tread are different in each tire, making each handle, turn, stop and preform different.
The X-Radial DT is the better choice.
You may want to look at the Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II.

QUESTION: Surprised to hear that you've had bad luck with the Harmony's; my wife's CRV has 93,000 miles, & we'll keep this vehicle for probably only a few more years - hence not wanting to spend $100 plus per tire...Sounds as though you would rate the X-Radial DT over the Harmony, & the Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II over the X-Radial - am I reading you correctly?
Any other tire (any brand) on the market you could recommend to a Michelin die-hard?
Thanks once again!
Fred.
AnswerFred,
I am a Michelin 'die hard ' myself. I was trained at the Michelin school.
I prefer ( in order )
Michelin
Uniroyal
BFGoodrich
While all 3 companys are there own, Michelin has there hands in all 3.
Yes you are reading me correct.
I would have recommended the mv4 plus ( which I own ) but it is not in your size.
The AWP is a great tire. I am on my second set with them.
The BFG touring is good, but I would go with a Michelin or Uniroyal.
The Michelin Weatherwise II or the Uniroyal Tiger Paw AWP II would be the ones I recommend.
But the X-Radial will do just fine also.
