Tires: Wheel replacement, alloy wheel, steel wheel
QuestionNot strictly speaking about tyresn (but no section on wheels) but I have an alloy wheel on an older car that is causing a slow release of air around the rim. Short term I thought I would replace it with a normal steel wheel (5Jx14 ET45) which I have available while I run repairs on the wheel. Would this cause any problems ? The steel wheel is heavier and not sure if this could affect the cars stability ?
Probably a daft question, but can't find any reference. Do you know if there are any discussion groups for this sort of question ?
Thanks for your time
AnswerRichard,
This gets more into how the suspension and vehicle are going to react. I don't think it will have much of an effect, and since it is temporary, I think this is a good solution, so long as the wheel is more or less that same (width, offset) as the alloy wheel.
Hope this helps.
