Tires: tire upsizing, snowtires, summer tires

I drive a 2002 WRX wagon.  I need new summer tires but think I will get 'ultra-high performance all-seasons' this time instead, to reduce slightly the time I have to spend each year on snowtires.  If they fit, is there any benefit (grip perhaps?) to widening from a 205/55/16 to a 215 or 225?

Yes there is advantage to wider tires - dry traction.  However, the disadvatages are:  Reduced hydroplaning resistance, a greater probabilty of the tire following the ruts in the road, increased steering effort, and increased fuel consumption.
