Pat, is a Harley Davidson Iron 883 good for a 1st Bike, after My liscence & MSF course ?

It's not bad. A little heavy and a little on the large side for a beginner, but not bad.

I generally recommend 4 cyls no larger than 500cc or 2 cyls no larger than 650. However, if you're a bigger person the 883 should be quite manageable.

And I always recommend a used, inexpensive bike for a first bike. You will make mistakes, you'll probably drop it once or twice, it's a lot easier to swallow if it's already a little beat up and you're not in love with it. The first time you knock it over in your driveway, you'll be heartbroken.
