Used Cars: Buying a used Mini Cooper, mini coopers, vw gti

I haven't heard much about buying a used Mini. I was very close to buying a VW GTI, but a lot of young kids drive those cars and drive them recklessly, so I stayed away from that. But I love Mini Coopers, but haven't heard much about if they are good cars, especially buying one that was used. Can you give me any advice!?
