Used Cars: buying car and insurance, dmv office, buying car

Hello,

I am french living in New York, I live in NY for 10 years, I am planning to move to live in Mexico, prior to that I would like to buy a used jeep and bring it to Mexico.

I will have someone Mexican meet me at the border to legalize the plate, papers for Mexico,

but I don know about the steps here in the US to bring the car there .. meaning insurance to drive to the border etc .. as for my status, I had a 6 years visa which will expire, so I have a social security, but my passport and driver license is french.

Also I am planning to pay cash for the car.

What are the basic steps I have to follow to do everything legal ?
