Trucking: Interstate or Intrastate, dot application, mile radius
QuestionMy trucking company (which by the way is only one truck/trailer and I am the sole driver) only hauls inside the state of Virginia. No haz-mat. The DOT application has beyond a 100 mile radius as being Interstate. I only haul inside Virginia and travel beyond 100 miles. Does this make my company Interstate or Intrastate?
AnswerTex, are you talking about the MCS-150 form?
You can be an Intrastate carrier that exceeds 150 mile radius, or an Interstate carrier that stays within 150 miles. It's two independent questions, which means there are 4 total possibilities.
Short haul Intrastate,
Short haul Interstate,
Long haul Intrastate,
Long haul Interstate.
Just pick the one that fits your operation.
