What's the required amount of insurance should an independent carrier have to haul freight?

Marc, if you are going to operate with your own authority you will need to comply with federal regulations:

If you operate as an owner-operator under another carriers operating authority they may provide some of these coverages.  Thant will be spelled out in your contract.
