Trucking: frieght rates/fuel surcharges, frieght rates, dollar a mile
QuestionAs an intermodal hauler from the ports in North Carolina,What is a fare rate? I have been given a rate and it seemed low to me. A dollar a mile along with 53% fuel surcharge. Does that seem to be a fare rate?
AnswerPaul, I am not familiar with your market, but it does seem low. The 53% fsc sounds OK. You didn't mention length of haul. I assume it's short haul so there should be some sort of minuimum.
Figure out what the cost of your time is and the cost of the truck for the time it is being used and you will have an idea if this is a viable rate for the move. Best of luck. jim.
