Trucking: car hauling, bob stephens, dot number

Question
I have a 3 car wedge. I haul cars for Atlanta to Miami. I own the truck and trailer, but lease to a different company. I opperate under there authority. I pay all of my own bills,fuel tax,fuel,IRP plates,maint.,20% of ins. They pay for the rest of ins except for my bobtail I have to pay that. My ? is is 18% plus brokers fees to much to be paying?

Hi Tim.

That's about the going rate.  Some companies will pay all of your insurance and brokers, but then your only getting 75% (or less).  You may look into getting your own DOT number and running for yourself if you have a connection to the brokers.
