QuestionQUESTION: Is it a requirement to log fuel time if I am bobtailing and off duty. Say i work mon-fri and go in for 30 min to fuel my tractor on a sat or sun, and I run my tractor to a fuel stop which is within 3 miles of the yard. I am an owner op. In Ohio. Thanks Bill
ANSWER: Hi Bill, The FMCSRegulations 395.2 Defines On Duty Time as:
All time inspecting, servicing,or conditioning any Commercial Motor Vehicle at any time. You are required to log this time fueling. Good Luck. J P Long

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply I had also been told that once you have disconnected from your trailer that your tractor become as your personal vehicle. So If I use my tractor to transport myself to and from my work place I am on duty when I step into the tractor at my home, which is 30 min from my home base?
and do not log off duty until I return home? But if I drive another vehicle to and from the yard my on duty time will not start until I get to the tractor. Is that correct?
AnswerBill, I found a DOT interpretation that I believe fits you for the driving time when off-duty:
"When a driver is relieved from work and all responsibility for performing work, time spent traveling to and from home would be logged as "Off-Duty" UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS LADEN
