Trucking: fuel tax, ops guide, trucking business
QuestionI just started my trucking business as a owner operator in the state of California, some same I must pay fuel tax if I drive only in ca. some say I don't do I? also IFTA can you tell me about this
AnswerHi Clay.
If you just run Intrastate, you don't need a IFTA or DI license. If you run Interstate, you'll need an IFTA license. California is always different than every other state in regards to trucking. I believe that you don't have a fuel tax for intrastate, but it falls under the "heavy vehicle use tax" when your Intrastate.
I've attached a couple of links, and to be 100% sure, contact the California DOT and "Board of Equalization". The "Board" takes care of fuel taxes in California. Their number is 916-322-9669.
