Truck Repair: intank fuel pump, fuel pump, length of time

Can you field test a intank fuel pump , with just a ground and power wire off of the battery. 1990 chev 1500

Hi Glen,
As long as you know which terminals to send power through then it would be ok, just don't run it for any length of time because the fuel lubricates and cools the motor (if you are testing it out of the tank). Although, you should hear it run when you turn the key to run position.
