Truck Repair: My Dodge is Causing Floods! Please Help! :), dodge ram 1500, auto part stores
QuestionI am hoping you can assist me with my Dodge Ram 1500. I am almost positive that my thermostat housing is causing a serious leak. Every single time I drive my truck, I am having to fill it up with jugs and jugs of water...I previously thought it was overheating, because of the thermostat, so I replaced the thermostat. The problem continued, and we were told by AutoZone to replace the water pump--and unfortunately--we listened. I have had to continue taking my truck to and from work--and it is leaking unbelievably. It looks like the water is running down the water pump now. Does this sound like a thermostat housing type of problem? And if it does--can you tell me what I would need to do to fix it? It would be VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!
Also, in the meantime--is it a myth that when your vehicle is overheating in this type of scenario--that if you run the vehicle with the heat on---it helps to lower the engine temperature? (I'm burning up in Texas)!
Thanks a lot!
AnswerA massive water can come from many places --- if it is running down the water pump, your leak is from a higher point -- intake - thermostat - front engine cover -- You can use a leak detection kit to narrow it down -- these are typically available at the auto part stores -- the use a UV dye and UV light, $30.00. -- Once you nail down the leak, replaced the part or gaskets that are bad. And yes running the vehicle with the heat will help with overheating.
Thank you
