Truck Repair: Truck wont stay started, jumper cables, dodge 1500

Question
We left the lights on in our 1998 Dodge 1500 V8.  The battery went dead.  Hooked the truck up to our other truck with jumper cables.  Truck started up quickly  but now will not stay idling.  As soon as you let off the gas it just dies.  What could cause that?

Hello Charles,
I have run into that problem in a Dakota.
If the battery goes real low, and you charge it back up without unhooking it, the ECM seems to loose some memory or something.
The fix is to just unhook one of the battery posts for a few seconds, then reconnect it.
