Vintage Cars: How much money to fix ?, mercedes benz, mint condition

I have a 280 ce 1979 Mercedes Benz and i blew 2 cams in it driving from California to North Carolina. I only know i blew 2 cams from a Mercedes Benz mechanic. it hasn't run since June 07 been in the garage every since in mint condition i am ready to bring it out, and need to know how much i am looking to spend?

some call the 280 most durable gas engine MB ever made,what happend? Timing chain failure?
Blown cams probably do not tell the whole story, there  is a ton of stuff that goes south with chain failure
That said a capable mechanic can rebuild an engine ( providing the block does not have a hole in it) for (low end )  $2000 - high end $3500.
Of course you could always find a good used one  for somewhere in between.
