Vintage Cars: 1949 FORD, vent windows, 49 ford
QuestionI AM INHERITING A 1949 FORD CAR. HOW DO YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN: COUPE,SEDAN,BUSINESS COUPE-ETC-ETC.
I KNOW IT HAS A V6 IN IT AND THE VIN# STARTS WITH 98HA. I AM HAVING SOME PROBLEMS TRYING TO FIND OUT EXACTLY WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS WORTH? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
AnswerThere were two and four-door sedans, which meant both had roll-down windows in the back along with four opening vent windows. The club coupe had roll-down windows, but slightly different roof line and just vent windows up front (none in the rear). The business coupe was a club coupe, but without a rear seat. The '49 Ford had either a V8 or an inline six, but not a V6.
The value depends mostly on condition. The only way to know is to take it to a classic-car appraiser and have them evaluate the vehicle. There are also web sites devoted exclusivley to the 1949-1951 Ford; search for them through Google or Yahoo!, as they'll be a great source of information to you in the future.
