Vintage Cars: 1948 Packard Convertible, deck lid, convertible coupe
QuestionI just acquired above vehicle. It had been hit in the rear, and the repair that was done is bad. I intend to restore to alot better condition. My question is will a deck lid from a coupe or a sedan (short wheelbase) match the convertible? Coupe and sedan donors more avail. TKs
AnswerI doubt it. The all-new-for-1948 Packard coupes and sedans had a tapered, "bustle-back" trunk that was nearly a fastback. The convertible, on the other hand, had a much lower and flatter trunk lid to accommodate the well area necessary for the lowered top. If you could get a sedan trunk lid for little money (I'm thinking the sedan lid might actually work better than that of the coupe), it would at least be worth a try.
