Vintage Cars: engine 56 chevy, 56 chevy belair, chevy clubs
QuestionHi Don, I have a 6 cylinder New blue flame 136, that is what is on the valve cover. I pulled this engine out of a 56 chevy belair about 8 years ago. I wrapped it up very nicely and stored it. It has about 55k miles on it. It ran great. I would like to sell it. I am having a hard time finding out the aproximate value on this engine. Do you have any idea? Thanks Greg
AnswerThe best I can suggest is to join in on some old Chevy clubs, there are bunches of 55-56-57 Chevy clubs and their web sites or publications should have a classified section.
6 cyl engines aren't that popular with the old car crowd, at least with cars that could be had with V8's like the 56. But high gas prices may change that a tiny bit.
Also, check E-bay and see if anyone is selling used 6 cyl engines. Might get an idea of what they are getting. Checking E-bays completed auctions gives you a bunch of information.
