Every year new technology is developed to make headlights brighter and more functional. To find out which one is the brightest, it is critical to examine the different types of headlights used on today's cars.
The Incandescent BulbFor the last couple of decades manufacturers have mostly used the traditional incandescent light bulb. This is type of bulb has been around for over a century (since Thomas Edison invented it 1879) and is the simplest type of light bulb type and also the least brightest.
The Halogen BulbThe Halogen bulb is essentially an incandescent light bulb filled with halogen gas to help it emit brighter light.
The Xenon HeadlightXenon headlights are HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights that use Xenon and other mixture of gases to create a brighter and more natural light. Xenon headlights are brighter, last longer and use less energy compared with Halogen bulbs.
LED HeadlightsLED lights are also a bright light, but are not used on today's automotive headlights because of the amount of heat they generate. They are most used as accent lighting for today's production cars.
What Will the Future Bring?Technology is always making way for new technology, and, as advances in science expand tenfold every year, you can be sure to see even better and brighter headlights in the near future.
