Pontiac was a brand of General Motors cars from 1926 until GM discontinued the line in 2010. The Pontiac G6, produced from 2004 to 2009, was designed as a sportier alternative to the typical sedan. The G6 automatic transmission has a safety feature that prevents the key from being removed without taking certain steps.
Push the brake pedal. You will not be able to switch gears without pressing the brake pedal.
Press the shift lever button and slide the shifter up to the "P" (Park) position.
Turn the key to the "O" position or "LOCK/OFF." You cannot turn the key to this position until the vehicle is in park.
Pull out the key.
