Used in automobiles, electronics and industrial equipment to connect parts, plastic fasteners are durable, inexpensive, removable and available from a variety of manufacturers. The fasteners contain various types of threads, including screw-like and smooth threads that screw or snap into a hole or plastic nut. When removing plastic fasteners, you may not be able to use the fastener again if the part's threads are stripped or don't snap in place again.
Place a plastic or metal putty knife under the plastic fastener's head.
Pull up gently on the putty knife until the head of the fastener is free from the hole.
Pull the plastic fastener out with your fingers or pliers.
Place the fastener to the side if you plan on reusing it, or dispose of it in a trash can or bag.
Place an automotive trim removal tool on the plastic fastener's head.
Turn the removal tool counterclockwise to loosen the fastener from the hole.
Pull the plastic fastener out with your fingers or pliers.
Place the fastener to the side if you plan on reusing it, or dispose of it in a trash can or bag.
