When Ford introduced the new body-style F-250 trucks, they soared in popularity, partially because of the super-powerful Powerstroke diesel engine. Routine maintenance for a diesel engine is different than a gasoline engine, and fuel delivery is even more important. If your fuel pump goes out, you need to get it fixed, and it's a fairly easy process.
Open the fuel filter and water separator drain valve with your hands so that the fuel system is depressurized. Make sure the drain pan is underneath the valve.
Lift the front of the vehicle using the jack and support the truck on jack stands. Make sure the vehicle is secure before you crawl underneath it.
Using your hands, disconnect the harness that runs to the fuel pump.
Disconnect the retaining clip on the fuel line with your hands and remove the fuel line from the fuel pump.
Disconnect the fuel delivery hose using the open-end wrench. Make sure the drain pan is handy here as well.
Remove the brake lines from the bracket that secures the fuel pump using your hands. These are just clipped in place, so you can do it easily.
Unbolt the pinch bolt that secures the fuel pump to the bracket using the 3/8-inch ratchet. Spread the mounting bracket apart and pull out the fuel pump.
Install the new fuel pump in the reverse order of removal.
