A remote starter enables you to turn on your car from a distance using a remote typically placed on your key chain. The remote uses a specific code to activate the car starter --- providing security against others accidentally starting the car's engine. You must program a new remote if you plan to replace a malfunctioning or misplaced original. The procedure requires an adjustment that does not involve dismantling or removing the car starter.
Insert the car key into the ignition slot, but do not take the car out of "Park" or release the emergency brake.
Turn the car key clockwise until you hear a click. Press once on the "Valet" button on the car starter remote you plan to use with your car --- the "Valet" button is typically a small button found at the bottom of the remote.
Press the "Lock" or padlock icon button on the car starter remote, along with the "Valet" button, within three seconds of having released the "Valet" button.
Release both buttons after three seconds have passed. Turn the car key counter clockwise so it returns to its first position. Remove the car key from the ignition slot.
