A dirty fuel injector can cause problems with your Ford's V10 engine, including misfiring and poor gas flow, which can result in increased fuel consumption. A quick stop to an auto parts store for some fuel injector cleaner -- a mixture of chemicals and detergents that clean up deposits left behind by gasoline -- can save you the trouble of potentially costly repairs down the road. This fix is quick and simple, so no mechanic is needed.
Pull open the gas tank and unscrew the cap. Set the cap on top of the trunk of your vehicle so that it doesn't roll away or get stepped on.
Open the bottle of fuel injector cleaner. Pull out the fill tube from the bottle.
Insert the tube into the gas tank. Tilt the fuel injector cleaner bottle so that the mixture pours into the vehicle.
Discard the bottle and screw the gas cap back on. Close the gas tank.
Run your engine for 15 to 20 minutes, allowing the mixture to flow throughout the gas tank.
Turn off the car.
