Removing the instrument cluster from the Mercedes E320 is extraordinarily simple, but there is a catch: you have to purchase a specific cluster removal tool from Mercedes-Benz. Although you could use a coat hanger and bend it into a straight line, there is the risk that in using it, you could damage not only the instrument cluster or the vehicle, but yourself.
Turn off the E320's engine and open the hood.
Using a socket wrench, disconnect the negative terminal cable from the battery. This will prevent any accidental shocks.
Lower the steering wheel as far low and out as it will go. This will allow for more room to work with when removing the cluster.
Use the instrument cluster tool to pry out the instrument cluster. Slide it into the lower corner of the cluster and pry upwards to pop it out.
Unplug the two electrical connectors behind the cluster.
Remove the cluster from the vehicle and replace if necessary.
