The Chevrolet Cavalier is an inexpensive subcompact car available in two- and four-door models, including a convertible edition. The Cavalier was discontinued in 2005. The Chevrolet Cavalier shared the platform and many body parts with the Pontiac Sunfire. The Cavalier has a bumper cover that is painted to match the surface of the car. The bumper cover is made of a flexible, durable plastic material that is difficult to damage. Once damaged, the bumper cover should be replaced.
Locate the screws along the edge of the bumper cover, directly behind the rear tires. These screws are facing the rear tires and need to be removed with a Phillips screwdriver.
Open the trunk and lift up the carpet liner on the floor of the trunk. Look near the rear edge of the floor of the trunk for a row of four bolts. Use a ratchet and 10 mm socket to remove these bolts completely.
Use the ratchet and an 8 mm socket to remove the two bolts in the license plate area. These bolts hold the bumper cover on the car and can hold the license plate in place.
Look underneath the bumper cover by lying on the ground under the rear edge of the Cavalier. You can see a row of small 8 mm bolts along the inside edge of the bumper cover. Remove all of these bolts. The bumper cover should come off.
