If the headlights on your Ford F-550 begin to malfunction, they should be immediately replaced. Driving a vehicle with faulty headlights can lead to an accident, or a citation, from the police. The headlamp assembly replacement process is fairly simple on a Ford F-550 and only requires a socket wrench and Phillips screwdriver to perform. Although these exact instructions are for the 2008 F-550, they are also applicable to all F-550s produced between 2004 and 2009. For older models, the principle is the same. The differences lie in the location and number of bolts/screws on the assembly.
Turn off the F-550 engine, and raise the hood.
Remove the three screws from the headlight assembly, using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the bolt from top of the assembly, using a socket wrench.
Remove the four screws from the headlight assembly retaining ring, and remove the ring from the vehicle.
Unplug the electrical connector from the rear of the headlamp assembly. Pull the assembly out of the vehicle, and replace it with an H6054 assembly.
Reconnect the electrical connector to the assembly. Place the retaining ring into the vehicle, and reinstall the four screws to the assembly.
Reattach the bolt and three screws to the assembly, and close the hood.
