Replacing a brake light in a 2006 VW Jetta is a simple task that can be accomplished without any tools. Simply locate the brake light through the panels in the trunk and replace as if changing a bulb in your home. This small procedure is an important one that can keep your car roadworthy and keep you from running afoul of the law.
Open the trunk of your Jetta. On either side, you will see two small plastic clamps. Turn the clamps on the side where the burned-out bulb is and pull away the door.
Inside the door is a tray containing all the light bulbs. Press the tabs on each side of the tray simultaneously to release the tray. The brake light is the bottom of the three bulbs.
Remove the burned-out bulb by turning it counterclockwise and pulling gently.
Insert the new bulb into position and turn it clockwise.
Replace the tray and close the door in the trunk. Close the trunk.
Repeat the steps on the opposite side of the car, if necessary.
