Frame rust appears as a result of corrosion. When the metal combines with water or moisture, a chemcial change takes place in the metal, causing rust. If left untreated, the rust continues to spread--sometimes forming rust-through or rust holes that severely damage the metal frames of cars, trucks and other vehicles. It is important to maintain a vehicle by checking for rust on a regular basis. If you find it, it can be removed.
Scrape off surface rust, using a scrubbing pad, steel wool or wire brush.
Apply rust remover to the rust with a scrubbing pad. Wait several minutes for the remover to work on the rust stains, then scrub at the rust. Wipe the area clean with a paper towel.
Sandblast the rusty frame, using a sandblaster. This is the best way to remove extensive rust.
