The headlights on a Chevrolet Camaro will periodically burn out and need to be replaced. Chevrolet Camaros built in 1981 and earlier use two sealed-beam-type headlights mounted in adjustable buckets. Camaros built in 1982 and later utilize a replaceable bulb mounted inside a plastic housing. Removing the headlight on any Camaro is a task that can easily be accomplished by the vehicle owner.
Open the Hood.
Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the retaining bolt using a wrench. Pull the clamp off of the terminal.
Pull the wiring harness off the back of the headlight, using your hand.
Remove the screws that secure the plastic trim piece in front of the headlight to the vehicle’s body, using a Phillips screwdriver.
Pull the plastic trim piece away from the vehicle’s body.
Remove the screws that secure the steel retaining ring to the headlight bucket, using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the steel retaining ring from the vehicle.
Carefully lift the headlight out of the headlight bucket.
Open the Hood.
Disconnect the ground cable from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the retaining bolt using a wrench. Then pull the clamp off of the terminal.
Pull the wiring harness off the back of the headlight bulb. Use a flat-blade screwdriver to pry the retaining tab away from the plastic connector. Pull the connector off of the bulb.
Press in on the bulb socket and turn it 1/4 turn to disengage it from the headlight housing. Pull the bulb straight back to remove it.
