The drain tube on a Ford Escort is removes the built up condensation produced by the air conditioning evaporator. The evaporator is in a case along with the heater core under the dash. It is a sealed case and the drain tube is the only way the water can escape. The higher the humidity, the faster the water accumulates. A certain amount of small debris passes the exterior vents and infiltrates into the case blocking the hose.
Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jack stands for safety.
Roll under the car and locate the drain tube, which is low on the passenger side firewall. It is only about 3 inches long.
Insert the long nylon tie strap up into the hose as far as it will go. Do not use anything hard like wire or a coat hanger, since this will poke a hole in the soft evaporator. This would be an expensive mistake. Extract the nylon tie strap.
Blow the air gun up into the hose and it will now dislodge any material left in the drain hose.
