The lug-nut studs work in conjunction with the lug nuts to connect a vehicle's wheels and hubs. Over time the lug studs can rust and the threads can strip. Under severe stress the studs can even break. Fortunately, lug-nut studs can be replaced with minimal effort and little cost.
Raise the vehicle and support it with jack stands placed under the frame or axle.
Remove the wheel and tire.
Remove the brake drum by pulling it off the lug-nut studs.
Use a lug-nut stud removal tool (T74P-3044-A1) to press the stud from its hole in the hub.
Examine the stud hole in the hub. There will be groves left by the old stud.
Insert the new lug stud into the hole. Align the grooves on the base of the stud with the grooves in the hole.
Place four flat washers over the stud.
Thread a lug nut onto the new stud.
Tighten the lug nut until the new stud is completely seated in the hole.
Reinstall the wheel and tire.
Lower the vehicle.
