Chevrolet Camaro is available in two engine options, a six-cylinder or an eight-cylinder model. The engine in the six-cylinder can be upgraded to the eight-cylinder model but other things must be upgraded along with the engine to accommodate more power.
The six-cylinder engine uses different sensors from the eight-cylinder version. Because the eight-cylinder engine's sensors utilize different wiring to connect to the electrical control unit (ECU), wiring adapters must be spliced into the ECU wiring for compatibility.
The increase in power and weight produced by the eight-cylinder engine requires the accommodation of a stiffer suspension. Front and rear springs, shocks and sway bars need to be upgraded.
The added weight and power from the eight-cylinder engine require the upgrade of the stock brakes. Stock brakes do not have the performance to stop a heavier and more powerful engine, such as the eight-cylinder. As a result, it is unsafe to upgrade the engine without upgrading the brakes.
