Sirius satellite radio must be activated prior to use. Before you can activate a Sirius satellite radio, you'll need to capture the Sirius ESN (electronic serial number). The Sirius customer service department will need this number to activate the unit. A Sirius satellite radio may come with a factory radio, such as in a Ford, Mazda or Chrysler vehicle. You may also purchase a portable Sirius radio unit. The procedure to capture the ESN varies between models.
Crank your Ford's engine. Push the "Sat" button to switch to the satellite radio band.
Push the "i" button to display the Sirius satellite radio ESN.
Write down the number.
Crank your Mazda's engine.
Inspect the radio. Locate the button labeled "ESN."
Push and hold the "ESN" button down for a second and a half. The ESN displays.
Write down the number.
Crank the Chrysler's engine.
Push the radio's "Menu" button. Turn the "Tune" knob to browse through the menu.
Stop turning when you reach "Sirius ID." Push the "Tune" knob.
Write down the number.
Turn on your portable Sirius radio unit.
Push the "Menu" button. Push the "Down" button to scroll through the menu. Select "Sirius ID." Push "Enter."
Write down the number.
