The 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt has headrests, which are also known as head restraints, for each seat. These headrests provide additional comfort and a level of safety for the driver and passengers, offering protection against whiplash in the event of an accident.
The procedure for removing the front headrest from a Cobalt is different from that of removing a rear headrest, but each process is the same for all Cobalt models from 2005 through 2009.
Push the plastic tab on the outer headrest post. While holding the tab, pull up on the headrest to raise it.
Examine the post closest to the center console on either side. You will see a tiny hole on the base of the post.
Insert a paper clip or precision screwdriver to release the internal clip. Pull the headrest up to remove it.
Inspect the rear edge of the headrest to find the plastic cover. Pry up the cover with a flat-head screwdriver.
Remove the two bolts behind the cover with a socket wrench.
Lift the headrest up to remove it.
