The 1997 Acura TL had two engine options available -- 2.5-liter five-cylinder and a 3.2-liter V-6 -- and both engines hooked up to a four-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of which engine your TL has, the lubricants for the engine, transmission and differential are the same.
For the automatic transmission, Acura recommended using Honda Premium Formula Automatic Transmission Fluid. You can use Dexron-III if the recommended fluid is not available, but you'll need to switch back to the recommended fluid as soon as you can.
Acura recommended using either SAE 90 or SAE 80W-90 hypoid gear oil with an API rating of GL4 or GL5 in the TL's differential.
Acura recommended using 5W-30 engine oil in the Acura TL in all outside temperatures. You can opt for 10W-30 for your TL if outside temperatures remain above -20 degrees F.
