The Hyundai Elantra uses an external transmission filter similar to an oil filter. The style of the external filter eliminates the need to remove the transmission oil pan when you change the fluid and filter.
Have the transmission in your Hyundai Elantra flushed every 100,000 miles. In between transmission flushes, drain and replace the fluid and filter every 30,000 miles for optimal transmission maintenance.
The transmission filter is attached to the top of the transmission case, directly below the ignition coil. Remove the air filter housing to gain access to the filter.
Don't use any transmission fluid other than Hyundai's recommended SP-3 in your Elantra. Other fluids may cause irreparable damage, so obtain the correct fluid from a Hyundai dealership.
