The oil change light in your 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, also known as the oil service light, is a warning indicator that your vehicle may need servicing at a Volkswagen dealership or auto shop. However, the oil change light is simple to reset. This can be done without going to a Volkswagen dealership or auto shop. It can be accomplished using a Service Light Plus airbag reset tool, which can be obtained from most auto parts stores. Or, you can use your Volkswagen Jetta's reset button.
Attach the Service Light Plus airbag reset tool into your Jetta's data link connector, by placing the reset tool's built-in plug into your Jetta's data link connector. The data link connector is a small plastic slot that is built in the vehicle, under the driver's side of the Volkswagen's dashboard, near by the hood release latch.
Switch on your Jetta's ignition and wait for the tool's screen to enlighten.
Select "Volkswagen" and then press "OK." Then select "Jetta" and then press "OK" again.
Select "Reset of Oil Service Light" and then press "OK."
Switch off your Jetta's ignition and remove the tool.
Switch on your Jetta's ignition.
Press the reset button. The reset button is built in the vehicle's instrument panel and is located by the speedometer.
Hold down the reset button until the oil service light turns off and then let go of the reset button.
Switch off your Jetta's ignition.
