A knock sensor is a vital component of your car. If you've ever wondered how a modern car determines the appropriate air-to-fuel mixture in the engine, it is because of the knock sensor. It's crucial to maintain a good mixture of air and gasoline to achieve the most efficient combustion power inside your engine cylinders. Checking the voltage of your knock sensor is a good idea if you are worried it might not be functioning properly.
Locate the knock sensor and look for the two metal leads where the sensor connects to your car. Refer to the owner's manual or a repair manual for your car to determine the location of the knock sensor, as it varies from one car model to another.
Switch on the voltmeter and touch one of its probes to one of the leads on your knock sensor.
Touch the other probe from your voltmeter to the other lead on your knock sensor.
Keep both probes in contact with the metal leads and your voltmeter will display the current voltage reading in your knock sensor.
