Locate the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve at the top center of the engine block of your Mitsubishi Lancer. The valve acts as a harmful emissions regulation device by sending gases produced during fuel combustion back into the engine. Removing an old PCV valve helps keep pollution out of the environment. The valve resembles a black plug approximately 3 inches long in appearance and has a black hose attached to it. Replace the valve yourself to save money and a trip to the garage.
Open the hood of the Mitsubishi Lancer.
Pull the black, rubber hose that plugs into the valve close to the connection point with a firm tug. The hose is disconnected.
Grab the PCV valve using needle-nose pliers. Place on prong inside the valve and one outside the valve. Pull on the valve to remove it.
Press the new valve into the space left empty from the old valve. Reconnect the black hose to complete the job.
