The Saturn Ion is equipped with the front dynamic head restraint system. It is a safety feature the helps to prevent injuries, such as whiplash, in an auto accident. The head rest also provides the occupant a place to rest his head. The head restraint is removable, allowing for the replacement of seat covers or the repair of the seat-belt loop. It is not recommended to drive your Saturn, without the head restraint locked in place.
Locate the head restraint guide button, by sliding your fingers between the headrest and seat. Push the guide button, and pull up on the headrest, until it is fully extended.
Locate the guide hole, on the opposite side of the head-restraint guide button. Slide an opened paperclip into the hole, until you feel it push against the release.
Pull up on the head rest, while maintaining pressure with the paperclip, to release it.
