The ABS light on your 2000 Dodge Dakota comes on when the ABS brakes are not working normally. The sensors on the Dakota are make up of 6 small magnets that are encased in a black plastic housing mounted on the wheel bearing. If the sensor wires break, the system will malfunction. After you've had the ABS system serviced by a professional mechanic (or after you've fixed the problem yourself), the ABS light should automatically reset. If it does not, you need to do a hard reset of the ABS system.
Open the hood of your Dodge Dakota and loosen the nut on the cable clamp that is secured to the negative battery terminal.
Slide the clamp off of the battery terminal.
Wait 15 minutes, then reconnect the battery terminal. This will reset the electronic control unit and all sensors, including the ABS sensors. This will also reset the ABS brake light.
