The 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix notifies you when it's time for an oil change; the indicator turns on every 3,000 miles. Well-equipped Grand Prix models are equipped with a slightly different system than base models. This system is called a Trip Information Center. You can determine if your Grand Prix has this system by looking at the dashboard; if you see three buttons (Eng/Met, Mode and Reset), then your Grand Prix has the Trip Information Center. If it doesn't, use the standard method to reset your oil light.
Insert your key into the ignition and turn it to "Run." This ignition position is as far as the key will go without cranking the engine (don't crank it).
Push and release the gas pedal with your foot three times. Examine the odometer; if the "Change Oil Soon" light is flashing, the system is resetting. If it's not, turn the key off and repeat the procedure.
Turn the key off when the light stops flashing and then quickly crank it. Then, turn it off again.
Insert your key into the ignition and start the engine (leave your Grand Prix in "Park").
Press the "Mode" button until the light above "Oil Life" is illuminated.
Press and hold "Reset" for three seconds. The system will reset to 100 percent and the "Oil Life" light will turn off.
