The battery in a Cadillac DeVille is the primary component of a very complex electrical system. The Cadillac requires a strong battery to power all the accessories that makes it the comfortable and reliable car that it is. The battery will only take a few moments to remove.
Open the hood to access the engine compartment. The battery will be located at the front of the motor, next to the radiator.
Locate the positive and negative terminals at the back of the battery. The positive will be red and the negative will be black.
Unscrew the red terminal with a socket wrench and place it to the side. Do not allow the red and black terminals to touch, as this could cause an electrical arc and a possible electrical failure.
Unscrew the black terminal with a socket wrench and place it out of the way of the battery. The battery is disconnected from the electrical system.
Unbolt the bracket holding the battery in place. The bolt will be at the base of the battery. It can be removed with a socket wrench.
Pull the battery straight up and lift it out of the car. Some batteries will have a handle to make lifting easier. Some batteries will need to be grasped by the bottom and lifted out.
