Have your aluminum wheels seen better days? A thorough cleaning and polishing job can make them look new. You need to work meticulously--replacing dirty cloths with clean ones and washing your hands between each step. Quick, sloppy work will cause smears and scratches, but a careful job will produce aluminum wheels that shine like mirrors.
Take the wheels off so you can clean and polish more areas. Then remove small parts such as center caps.
Wash the wheels thoroughly using a mitt, water and soap designed for cars. Dry with a chamois.
Get rid of grease and grime with a soft rag and crud remover or grease remover. Take your time getting to the hard-to-reach spots, using clean, new rags as the old ones get dirty. Repeat Step 2.
Working on a small section at a time, use a clean, soft cloth to apply a wheel polish.
Use a clean cloth to buff the area. Use a cotton swab or skewer wrapped in cloth to get polish out of the tiny areas.
Lightly spray the wheel with water, wipe dry with a soft towel, and get your sunglasses on to protect your eyes from the shine of those wheels.
