There is no point in paying a mechanic to install an air filter in your Cavalier. With a screwdriver, you can do this yourself in less than five minutes and save money on labor charges. The replacement filters are quite affordable and, considering the benefits of a clean engine air filter allowing quality combustible air to your engine and optimizing fuel efficiency, you should replace it a couple times a year.
Release the hood latch with engine in the off position.
Prop the hood onto the hood prop rod located on the fender rail.
Locate the air box. It is directly behind the battery on the driver's side.
Loosen the four screws in the air box lid using the screwdriver. The screws are fixed into the lid and do not come out.
Lift the air box lid and remove the old filter. Discard it.
Insert the new filter.
Replace the lid and re-tighten the screws.
Remove the screwdriver and close the hood.
