With the right tools, anyone can install a car windshield. While it may be a bit time consuming, in the end you will be glad you performed the car maintenance on your own, without the help of a mechanic or having to spend a fortune.
Remove wiper blades.
Remove molding from around windshield with a painter's knife (available at any auto parts store). Most molding is held in by a spring-type clip. Proper wedging of the tool between the body and the molding forces the clip to loosen the molding.
Cut the sealer between the windshield and the automobile with the painter's knife.
Once all sealer has been cut, remove the windshield from the car.
Remove all old sealer or broken glass from window frame.
Install new sealer in window frame.
Lay new windshield in frame, pressing all the way around in the same direction. It may be necessary to lightly tap the windshield with a rubber hammer to seat it.
Reinstall molding. You should be able to lay the molding in place and push it down. Sometimes, it is necessary to use a rubber hammer.
Check for leaks.
